AC is on by default with (even heat) airflow to the footwell area (stange and inexplicable, but true) Look at your little pictorial of airflow.

Dehumidifier......

Spin has it right, the manual spells it out - the a/c cuts in to dehumidify the air whenever ANY setting other than "dash" is selected, and it doesn't light the indicator!

The straight arrow dash setting is the only sure way to keep it off.

I'm in the far north, I pull the fuse marked "a/c clutch", 10 amp. That way the computer thinks it is still controlling the a/c.

Crazy way

That is a crazy set up. Most cars don't do that. Eats up your gas mileage.

Thanks guys

actually most cars do have a scheme to have the ac on whenever the defroster is on.
and in the case o fthe rx-8 wheneve floor is selected defrost is also automatically selected. that has to do with placement of the heater core,ac condensor and the path of the vents in relation to the widshield because of the engine being so far under the A-pillar line.

The only selector setting that does not trigger AC is the full-face position.

Hello MAZDA - are you listening?

It would be a *GREAT* update for PCM programming to allow the driver controll over the A/C for any setting,
except explicit Defrost.

Thanks in advance,

Q-chan

(which flash will contain this?)
