Power Loss at 6k rpm.
Hello guys this is my first thread.
Recently i bought a 2004 6speed Velocity Red rx8 with 86k km (92k now)
Am having power loss at 6k rpm after the car gets normal temperature it gets retarded acceleration and when i rev up to 6k rpm i hear noise in the engine and power loss.
I cleaned the throttle body recently and maf changed coils and wires to ngk.
Oil change every 4k Km and coolant fluid a month ago.
Any thoughts ?

If you have a catalytic converter, check it by pulling it down from the front, shine a flashlight inside and make sure there's no damage or clogging.
Or, wait till it gets dark, take her for a spin with a few redline pulls (make sure you're at operating temp), then check under the car to see if the cat glows.
Report back.

I recently had this problem with my car. It seems to have gone away for now.
Heres the details, and how I've temporarily fixed mine (by fluke!)
Car is sitting at 179 000 km.
Car definitely has low compression.
Car is setting no engine light.
Car has BHR kit installed, with good spark plugs.
Cat is clogged (confirmed, resonator is full of cat bits)
SSV hasn't been cleaned.
Premix every tank.
Heres what happened to me. When I bought the car I started premixing using AMSoil Interceptor 2 stroke oil. When I finished the bottle, I decided to try a different 2 stroke oil, and went for Lucas Oil Semi Synthetic 2 Stroke Low Ash. After a little while (not sure on the time frame), I started to experience the exact same problems as you. Took about 2.5 times as long to accelerate from 6k-9k rpms, it was extra loud and sounded very "airy", and you were going nowhere real quick. I would also experience this same problem if I forgot to premix when I filled up. Not immediately.. but it would eventually return.
I tried cleaning the MAF (multiple times!) which would randomly cause the problem to fix itself/reappear. I personally thought it was the SSV, but after a while I realized that I started having these problems after changing my premix. Changed it back to the AMSoil... revving to 9k happily again.
This is by no means a solution to your problem.. however.. you wanted thoughts, and this is what happened to me. Not sure what the premix could've done to solve the problem, but if you've ever thought about premixing, now might be the time to try? I use 4-8oz per gas tank. It does feel like a bandaid over the problem for me but.. I'm just happy my engine is still going.
Anyone know what the premix is bandaging up?

Its not the cat i ve checked the other day its not getting red after hard driving.
Am gonna try premix. Is motul 10w30 mineral ok?
(After the coil-wire change but its being 2 months i changed those)
I took it for a ride tonight and it was fine.
No trouble codes at the moment.

You do not premix with 10w30.
Only 2 stroke oil, which is designed to lubricate as it burns, low ash, preferably FD or FC certified.
Most recommend Idmetsu, but some like myself use whatever is locally available.

Im at 97,000 mi and still a VERY strong rotary. Never premixed. Never will. Some swear by it but the car premixes itself. I did however always run a heavier oil. What did the noise from the engine sound like? And I've also heard of ppl getting bad plugs/wires/coils and a problem show up immediately or a lot sooner than it should have.
There is no actual evidence one way or the other, but I decided to start after much research and asking a lot of questions here.
I think there is more logical reasoning for doing it than not to. It's more like long term insurance in my mind.
Once again, no proof, but I thought my 8 runs better since I started.

After you cleaned the ESS and Max and changed out all your plugs wires and coils did you reset the KAM. Cause that's what one of my problems were. I replaced all my plugs and coils with OEM parts and cleaned the **** out of everything I could find then I reset the KAM and it has worked fine ever since
( on a personal note I used an OBD2reader even when there was no cel on erased whatever was stored then reset the kam)
But yea more info on what the noise from the engine sounds like would be great

Hey Cajun yea I'm glad got it fixed too. Was starting to get a little frustrating lol
Anyways. The best thing I can think of elf is go to a shop and have them hook up a computer to it driving with ac off then on but I would do as much as possible with no cost. Maybe a compression check would help too
Nice 8

Hi, I don't know how much you have researched why some people think premix is a good idea .
There is no actual evidence one way or the other, but I decided to start after much research and asking a lot of questions here.

Related issue: my RX8 is strictly a racecar and it has a barely used reman engine, new coils/plugs, and free flowing exhaust w/no cat so I know those are not the problems. On track when I shift to third gear the engine seems to lay flat for a second around 6,500rpm RPM, then rev fine. It also seems to do it in fourth gear around 7,500. The engine does not miss it just seems off power for a second, but it does this consistently at the same RPM. From what I've read it seems if it were a APV/SSV type problem that I would have a CEL (which I don't), is that correct? My next step is to remove and clean the e-shaft sensor and do the reset. Any other ideas? Thanks...

Still sounds like the SSV. Maybe it's starting to get sticky, just not enough to completely stick. What year is it? Have you ran a separate vacuum line from the oil overflow to the maint ports or have a catch can? Did cleaning the ESS help?

Mine is an '04 and no I have not ran the line nor do I have a catch can. Cleaning the ESS and the reset seemed to help, but this past weekend I dealt with some clutch and water temp issues so I wasn't pushing the car 100%. Once I deal with those I'll test it again, hopefully the hesitation will be gone.

Guys my ssv was full of carbon. Cleaned it and put it back..
I can here the noise again and its louder. The only solution is to change the valve now? i got more power loss at 5-6k rpm.

If the fuel pump/fuel sock have never been changed/cleaned on your car, it might be worth looking into as the car might be fuel starved. If the problem is worse after cleaning the SSV, maybe the fuel output can't keep up with the extra airflow?
